Big blue pipes line the sides, and a red shell zips past, skidding to a stop with a soft thud. I grab the controller, pressing down hard on the right button—yippee! The kart speeds up like lightning. I steer left around the turn, narrowly avoiding the banana peel that slides across the track. A tiny green star floats by, and I quickly press the star button to collect it. Now my kart’s faster still. I zoom past a tree, its leaves swishing in the breeze. The screen shows me moving ahead, first place!
