The screen flickers with blue lights as I press buttons on the controller. Sonic runs fast across the screen, his shoes glowing a bright green. A hill appears and he speeds up, the ground flashing by so quick my eyes strain to follow. I tap harder at the buttons, trying to make him jump higher over the blue rings. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t—sometimes he gets stuck in a loop, running back and forth without going anywhere. The screen starts to turn fuzzy like it’s raining on a TV. But then it clears up and Sonic is sliding down a metal pipe, his face showing just a bit of surprise as if he’s doing something cool. I love watching him do stunts—like spinning in circles really fast. It looks so silly but fun!
