The screen flickers as I press the buttons on my Game Boy. It’s supposed to be playing Super Mario Land, but the game stops mid-level. A red light flashes at me, telling me something is wrong. I try to keep it on by pressing the power button harder, hoping it will start up again. The battery must be dying because now only part of the screen shows the mushrooms and coins. I can still see Mario jumping, but he moves slower than usual. The game sounds quieter too. I fumble with the back pack looking for my charger cable, but I don’t find it. It’s time to put away the Game Boy until tomorrow when I get a fresh set of batteries.
