The New Super Mario Bros. U Launch
The cartridge blinks like the stars in the sky, waiting for my touch. I pop it into the Wii console, and it hums awake. The screen lights up with a blue and yellow swirl, and I see Luigi running through a green field. He looks so silly in his plumber outfit, but he’s fast! The game starts, and I have to guide him through these big pipes.
The camera zooms out as Luigi jumps over a Goomba, sending it flying into the sky with a thump. I press the A button, and my finger leaves a light mark on the screen. Mario appears from nowhere, and they both continue their journey up the pipe.
I reach for the Wii Remote, turning it so the green arrow points forward. Luigi jumps again, this time onto a moving platform that spins like a merry-go-round. He crouches down just as it tilts, balancing perfectly. The screen vibrates slightly, but I can still see his little feet clinging to the edge.
The level transitions with a bright flash, and now we’re in a castle! Luigi runs through a room filled with blocks that pop up like mushrooms. He punches them with a fist that looks way too big for his tiny body. The game hums as more blocks appear, each one landing with a satisfying thud.
At the end of the level, I see a flagpole. Luigi charges at it with all his might and plants his flag in the ground. A cheer sounds from the TV—no, a roar! The screen flashes once more, and we’re back to the menu. But for now, Luigi’s victory is my joy.
