Red Ball Rolling Downhill

The red ball sits at the top of the steep hill. It starts slowly but picks up speed as it rolls down. I watch intently, trying to guess where it will stop. Sometimes it rolls into a puddle, other times it gets stuck behind a tree root. Every time it stops, I push it back up and let it go again. The ball zooms faster this time, past the swing set and over the slide. It bounces once on the concrete before stopping near the sandbox. Just as I’m about to give up hope of pushing it all the way down, the ball finds its rhythm and rolls right into the little red bucket I’ve been waiting for. A small victory, but one that feels like a big win.
