The screen lights up with a bright green rectangle. A small dot bounces back and forth across the line, left then right, left then right. I press buttons to make my paddle move up or down, trying to hit the ball before it reaches the edge. Sometimes it goes wide, other times it hits just right and the score increases by one. The sound of a fast clack when the ball hits the wall is like music to my ears. It’s quiet in the room as I focus on watching the dot move and trying to keep it from going out.
