New Planting Season
I step into the greenhouse, the scent of damp earth and fresh growth greeting me. The soil is still cool under my hands, but the air feels charged with promise. I’ve been tending this place for years, but every season brings new challenges and opportunities.
Today, I focus on a row of recently sprouted seedlings. They’re delicate, barely peeking above the surface, yet they already hold potential. Each one represents hours of careful preparation—soaking seeds in water overnight, ensuring soil temperature is just right, testing pH levels. The meticulous work feels almost therapeutic now that spring has arrived.
A few days ago, I noticed a small patch of mold near the bottom corner. It’s spread a bit, but with a little care, it can be contained. I carefully lift the affected plants and place them in a separate section to treat. Each plant is treated like an individual, deserving of its own space for recovery.
The greenhouse is filled with various stages of growth—broadleaf greens just ready to transplant, young herbs sprouting vigorously, and flowers pushing through their first buds. The diversity here keeps things interesting; there’s always something new happening among the rows.
As I work, my thoughts drift to how this year’s harvest might look. Last season was particularly bountiful, with an unusually long growing period due to the warmer weather. This year, with the changing climate and unpredictable weather patterns, it could be a challenge to maintain that level of productivity. But there’s something satisfying about preparing for whatever comes next.
I finish up by checking on the moisture levels in each section. The greenhouse needs regular attention, but it’s incredibly rewarding to see progress. Each plant grows as part of a larger ecosystem, and nurturing them is more than just planting seeds; it’s about building resilience against changing conditions.
After spending several hours here, I step outside, feeling refreshed by the fresh air and sunlight filtering through the trees. The greenhouse feels like my sanctuary now, a space where I can both escape from the world and contribute to something meaningful. As spring fully takes hold, I look forward to what this new planting season will bring.
