I press the start button on the Game Boy. It doesn’t work right away. I try it again. Still nothing happens. I hold down both A and B at once—maybe that’s what I’m supposed to do. The screen stays black. I shake the Game Boy, thinking maybe the battery isn’t tight enough. It makes a funny rattling sound inside. I tap on it softly. Now the red light on the side flickers slowly, like it’s getting sleepy. I put my thumb down on A and B again, but still no go. The game should be loading, but nothing appears. Maybe if I try another game? I take out the Pokémon Red cartridge and swap it in. Same thing happens—no start button. The Game Boy screen stays blank like a black TV without channels.
