The First Day of Coding Club

Today marks my first day at the coding club. I arrived early, eager to dive into the world of programming. As I set up my laptop, the screen was still cold from not being used all winter. My mind raced with thoughts of variables and loops—concepts that feel like foreign languages yet so exciting.

I opened the new project folder on the shared drive. It’s a space station asteroid mission game, complete with a launch countdown animation. The instructor walked in just as I was getting started, a smile on his face that seemed to say he’s been waiting for someone like me to join.

The first task is to set up the environment and make sure everything works properly. I type carefully, trying not to introduce any syntax errors. It feels strange, typing so meticulously about something invisible. The whirring of my fan echoes softly in the background as I check each line for mistakes.

I spend hours coding, testing, and debugging. Each time a piece of code runs without crashing is a small victory. There’s an odd sense of pride in making something work that was just ideas seconds ago.

By the end of the day, I’ve made progress but also hit a roadblock. A loop isn’t working as expected, and my frustration starts to simmer. But then, I remember why I’m here—this is about learning, not perfection. So, I take a deep breath and start to debug step by step.

The instructor stops by to check on me. He looks at the screen, nods approvingly, then leaves with a nod of encouragement. It’s small but powerful support that keeps my spirits high.

As the last light fades outside through the window, I save my work and prepare to end the day. I feel like I’ve just scratched the surface, but there’s so much more to explore. The code I’ve written today is just a beginning—a stepping stone to what could become a thrilling journey in coding.
