The screen flickers as I try to catch the bad guy in Super Mario Bros. The red dots dance across the grassy fields like fireflies. Sometimes the screen stays steady, and I can run through pipes without jumping too much. But other times, it blinks and the Mario sprite freezes mid-jump. I squint at the TV, hoping it will calm down. When it does, I quickly hit the A button to save Mario before he gets caught by Bowser’s henchmen. The flicker is annoying but doesn’t stop me from playing.
