Forgotten Script
The script feels heavy in my hands. It’s an old text adventure game I found online; the kind with simple commands and ASCII art for monsters and treasure chests. I’ve been playing it on a quiet Saturday afternoon, trying to find its hidden ending.
I’m at the forest entrance now, surrounded by trees and the smell of damp earth. The map shows this is where most players get stuck—too many choices lead to dead ends or repeatable loops. But I know better than that. I’ve read through all the forums, looking for hints on how to progress without falling into traps.
“Go north,” I type. A small forest path appears before me, winding up a hill. At the top is an old, dilapidated cabin with smoke rising from its chimney. “Enter cabin.”
The cabin is dimly lit, with furniture covered in dust and cobwebs hanging from the ceiling. In one corner, there’s a bookshelf filled with dusty books. I notice a small script lying on a table next to a desk lamp.
“Read script,” I type. The words are faded but still legible: “To unlock the final treasure, find the secret room within the cabin. Use the map and clues scattered throughout the forest.”
This is it—the key to the ending! I grab my phone and pull up the map. Scanning through the rooms I’ve visited so far, there’s a small symbol that could be a hidden entrance: a faint line between two bookshelves.
I push against the wall, and to my surprise, it gives way slightly. Inside is a narrow passage leading down. The air feels cooler in here, with just enough light from above to see by.
“Go down,” I type. A small room appears—empty except for an old chest at its center. “Open chest.” The chest creaks open, revealing a map fragment. It’s a piece of the map that shows a secret pathway out of the forest, leading back to the cabin entrance.
I put the new information on my map and head back up the passage. Reaching the top, I take the map path through the trees until I find the exact location as marked in the script. There it is—a small rock covering a hole.
“Remove rock,” I type. Beneath the stone is an old, weathered key. This must be the key to unlock the final door.
I go back inside and insert the key into the lock on the cabin’s main door. It turns smoothly. The door creaks open, revealing a room filled with ancient-looking artifacts and treasures I’ve never seen in the game before.
“Take all treasure,” I type. It’s the moment of victory—finding everything the script promised. My heart beats fast as I collect each item, imagining what it must be like to uncover such secrets after so many tries.
Now that I’m back outside with my prize, I feel a mix of accomplishment and nostalgia. This game has been a challenge for months, but solving its mysteries feels like a real adventure. As I sit on the forest floor, surrounded by my newfound treasures, I realize how much fun it can be to explore the unknown—alone or with just your mind.
