The Launch of Sonic the Hedgehog on Sega Genesis

The screen flickers softly as I place my hand on the power button. A green glow forms into the Sega logo, spinning slowly before dissolving into the menu. My eyes scan down until they land on “Sonic the Hedgehog.” The cursor hovers over it for a moment before I press select.

A new world appears—vibrant and bright. Sonic zips across the screen at breakneck speed, leaving a glowing trail behind him. He skids to a stop in front of a tall hedgehog statue. The camera pulls back, revealing colorful platforms, ladders, and a chao floating nearby.

I jump into the first level, running as fast as I can without falling. Sonic’s feet seem to float over the ground, his sneakers leaving no mark behind. I collect rings by touching them—small golden orbs that fill my ring meter.

When I reach the end of the level, I see a large sign: “Green Hill Zone.” The screen zooms out further, showing a vast green landscape stretching before me. Sonic runs through hills and trees until he reaches a loop-de-loop tube. I press A to start the ride—Sonic vanishes into it.

The game ends in an intense final moment where Sonic defeats Robotnik’s robots. The level counter resets back to 1, and I smile, knowing I can try again.
