Floating Rings in the Dark

I’m sitting on my bed, the moonlight filtering through the curtains. The floating rings are glowing softly in front of me. I’ve been practicing for hours now. My mom got a new lamp that shines just right, making them look like little stars.

Sometimes, when I spin one ring too fast, it jumps out of control and lands on my arm. It tickles! But then I have to find it quickly or it’ll disappear into the darkness. Today, I found a special trick: if you tap two rings together softly, they glow brighter and stick around longer.

I’m trying different patterns now—circle, zigzag, spiral—and each one feels like a little dance. The rings hum when they touch, making funny little melodies that sound like tiny bells. I wish my sister could see this, but she’s fast asleep downstairs. Maybe next time…

For now, the rings are all mine, and I’m learning their secrets. Each ring is heavier than it looks, with a surprising weight that makes them float differently each time. It’s fun to figure out which one will stay up longest or move in ways I didn’t expect.

After I finish my practice tonight, I’ll make sure to pack the rings back into the box under my bed, careful not to bump anything. Then maybe I can dream about floating rings tomorrow.
