Last Night's Heavy Rain
The rain thumps against the roof with heavy staccato. Outside, the world is cloaked in dark grey, like the sky just swallowed up the last bits of daylight. I lie on my bed, wrapped in a blanket, trying to make out what’s happening through the window. The light has dimmed to an almost tangible layer, and there’s barely any sound but for the persistent drumming from outside.
I’ve been playing with a new game, trying to figure out its mechanics. It’s a puzzle game where you have to guide a character through a series of tricky mazes. Each level is packed with hidden paths and dead ends that can easily lead to frustration. Today was no different; I spent hours exploring the twists and turns, hoping to find an efficient path.
Finally, as the rain starts to ease up, I see a glimmer of light on my screen—green bars filling up slowly. It’s been a while since I’ve seen such progress in the game. The level I’m working on is challenging; there are too many hidden switches and dead ends that make it feel like every move could be wrong.
A small bird starts to chirp from somewhere outside, its notes sharp against the gray silence. It’s a reminder that even in this dreary weather, life keeps going. I pause for a moment, considering how the game mirrors real life—there are always unexpected turns and obstacles that can make everything more complicated.
Deciding to keep trying, I start again from where I left off. The first few minutes feel like déjà vu; I know the traps, the dead ends, and the secret switches. But as time passes, the familiar becomes less so. I encounter a switch in a spot I hadn’t seen before, and by sheer luck, it opens up an entire new path.
With every step forward, the screen brightens just a bit more, revealing parts of the maze that were hidden before. The game rewards patience and persistence, much like life does. It’s frustrating at times, but also incredibly rewarding when you finally figure out how to navigate the tricky sections.
As I near the end of the level, the screen fills up with a small congratulations message. A tiny victory in this world feels significant, especially after spending so many hours trying to beat it. The light outside has grown stronger now, and I can see the rain starting to clear away. It’s a momentary reprieve from the gloom, much like finding a solution to a problem.
Outside, the sun peeks through the clouds, casting soft light on everything. I’m grateful for these small victories, knowing that even in the darkest of times, there’s always a way out if you’re willing to keep looking.
