Setting Up The Server

Today’s focus is on getting the server set up for the new online game I’m hosting. It’s been a while since I last tried this, so there are quite a few steps to go through. First, I need to unpack all the wires and cables that got tangled when I moved my setup last month. My hands feel a bit stiff as I unroll everything on the desk.

The manual says to connect the power supply first. It’s reassuring to hear the hum of the server coming to life. Next, I plug in the Ethernet cable into the modem and the back of the server. The lights start blinking, and it feels like the machine is breathing.

I remember from last time that I have to set up a static IP address so everyone can connect easily. My fingers dance over the keyboard as I type out the commands. It’s a bit tricky, but the guide helps me through each step. Once that’s done, I test the connection by pinging myself from another device. The result shows a low latency, which is a good sign.

Now, it’s time to set up some basic security measures. I’ll create a user account and password for managing the server. Security isn’t my strong suit, but I read through some tutorials to make sure everything is locked down.

With the server running smoothly and secure, I feel like I’m making good progress. It’s satisfying knowing that soon, I can invite friends over to play and test out new levels together online.
