The controller hums softly in my small hands. I press the A button—click! It makes that same sound every time. The left stick moves side to side; the right one up and down. I tilt it forward—it tilts, but not as far as I want. The D-pad jiggles when I push it hard. The buttons light up green when I press them. The screen on top flickers with a game logo, but nothing shows up yet. It’s all quiet until the TV turns on and the logo disappears. Now there’s a menu of games to pick from. I choose one carefully and press start—more clicking sounds as the game loads.
