The controller beeps softly as the game loads. I push the buttons to make them light up in bright colors. The joystick moves smoothly when I turn it left and right. A funny little beep sounds each time I press the start button, like a tiny alarm clock gone crazy. The screen flickers once before settling on a colorful map. It’s time to choose my character—Ryu or Ken? I pick Ryu, liking his look best. He’s dressed in a red gi and white socks with black belts, just like he does in the movies. I press start again to get ready for our first round.
