The Game Boy makes that little beep when I turn it on. It’s like the toy is happy to see me. I press the A button and the screen lights up with a red square. Then comes another quick beep as it starts to load my game, Super Mario Land. The screen flickers softly while I wait. After a few more beeps, Mario appears. He jumps up and down on his blocky feet. I smile and press the B button to make him run to the right. His little legs move fast, but not as quick as me when I’m running. Sometimes he bumps into things or falls off ledges. Then I have to press A again to make him jump and get back up. It’s fun watching him explore this strange land with colorful flowers and tall pipes where he can hide. The Game Boy’s beep keeps going, making sure Mario doesn’t get hurt too much before I save the game and put it away.
