The New Game Card
The cartridge box slides into the slot with a soft click. The red and gray rectangle lights up, revealing a world of green, blue, and white. I insert my thumb into the button nest, pressing it down hard as I watch the screen. It flickers to life, showing a map of an island with tall trees and palm fronds swaying in the breeze.
The game starts with a title screen that reads “Zarkon’s Revenge.” The logo is surrounded by stars, making everything sparkle. A message pops up telling me it’s time to begin the adventure. I press start again, and my character appears—a knight wielding a sword and shield. He walks towards the edge of the island, and suddenly, he jumps into action.
A dragon swoops down from the sky, spewing fire in his direction. The knight swings his sword with all his might, but it bounces off the dragon’s scales. I press the buttons quickly, trying to time the swing just right. When the knight finally connects, a loud thud sounds as the dragon bursts into flames.
The screen changes to show different parts of the island, each more challenging than the last. I keep playing, moving from one level to another, fighting enemies and collecting treasures. The game is intense, but also fun. Every time I defeat an enemy or solve a puzzle, the screen blinks with excitement, rewarding me for my efforts.
By the time the sun begins to set outside, I’ve reached the final boss—Zarkon himself. His castle looms on the horizon, and I prepare to face him. This is it—the end of the adventure.
