New Online Friends
I woke up this morning with my tablet propped open by the side of my bed. The screen was already lit from last night’s game session. I tapped it awake and slid into the chat app where a handful of names were waiting to reconnect after hours apart.
First, I saw Emma’s profile picture—a cat with a red bandana. She messaged me right away: “Hey, what did you think about that new level in Sonic?”
I checked my notes from last night. “She was right,” I typed back, “It’s tricky but rewarding.”
Emma replied quickly. “Do you want to team up this weekend? There are some cool upgrades now.”
“Sure,” I said. “But it’ll be hard to find time with school and stuff.”
“Yeah, no kidding,” she agreed. “Maybe if we split our hours?”
We chatted for a while about other games too. Then I saw someone new pop up: Alex. He had an avatar of a robot in the background.
Alex greeted us both. “Hey, you guys! I’m still on my first playthrough and struggling. Can anyone help me get past that tricky part?”
Emma and I exchanged looks. “Sure thing,” I said. “We’ll talk later.”
“Thanks!” Alex replied with a smile.
It felt good to connect with people who shared similar interests. Games were just the hook, but making new friends was what made it all worthwhile.
