The Game Boy beeps softly as I plug it into the wall. A red light flashes angrily. I frown at the screen that once glowed with colorful creatures. Now it shows only a black rectangle with a white “Game Over” message. I try again, holding it closer to the outlet, but the battery light stays stubbornly lit. The buttons don’t work even when I press them hard. Outside, the sun hangs low in the sky, casting long shadows across the room. A small bird chirps from somewhere nearby. Inside the Game Boy, a faint hum comes from the charging port as if it’s trying to keep hope alive.
